My front door is having a lot of air coming from the sides, is there a good trick to stop this?
I am renting a apartment and you can feel air coming from the side of the door, the top and bottom are air tight it's just the side by the doorknob that keeps having a cool breeze. Is there something out there that would solve this problem?
Hi, Becky, Since you say that there are no leaks at the top or bottom, I'd guess that the (in to out) seal is probably okay, meaning the door is closing fully.
Since there is only the draft on one side (left or right), that needs to be sealed... As a previous answer said, there are rubberized weather stripperings available which you merely stick onto the side of the door or the door frame itselff. Cheap an worth a try.
There is another, though slightly more expensive way which may work better and last longer. It has a thin metal backing with a felt type of seal. You cut it to the length you need and tack or screw it in place.
Just go to a Home Depot, etc., give them the size of the door and they will set you up. If you have no help then, by all means go with the sticky stuff. If you have a friend that can use a hammer or screwdriver without getting hurt, ask for a little help and go with the metal backed, felt type stuff. Shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes.
It's good that you noticed where the draft is coming from. Many people aren't able to figure it out. GL
