Florida Land
can somebody tell me why Florida and Louisiana own land that should be apart of Alabama and Mississippi?

thanks to them only a small part of each state touches the sea. I don't understand why this is or how it happened.

to begin with, to enter the union, a state only required an amount of people and in addition, both florida and louisiana were formed *before* alabama and mississipi

Florida was gained from the Spanish. It was ultimately given by force b/c of Andrew Jackson's capture of the captial - Penascola. So, Florida's territories were in a sense, determined by the Spanish

Louisiana was quickly developed b/c of its prospering city - New Orleans. New Orleans had quickly gained in population size b/c it is, if u see on the map, at the end of the Mississipi River, so it was a major center of trade.

so basically, growth of population and expansion were the major causes of such an awkward situation

hope this helps =)
